On Sunday, August 3, 2014, Charlotte Immigration Attorney Benjamin Snyder will be a featured speaker in a panel discussion about immigration issues in the Charlotte area hosted by the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, Charlotte Chapter. Other panel speakers include: Adriana Galvez Taylor, Immigrant Rights Program Director at Latin American Coalition; Sarah Preston, Policy Director at the ACLU of NC; Lacey Williams, Advocacy Director, Latin American Coalition; and Rausel Arista, Immigrant Rights Organizer with the Latin American Coalition and member of Familias Unidas.
The discussion will cover the 287(g) agreement between local law enforcement and ICE which sews fear and distrust among the immigrant community, the possible municipal ID program in Charlotte, current pending legislation at the North Carolina state legislation impacting immigration, and other matters concerning immigrants in Charlotte. The panel will also take selected questions from the audience. The program is free and open to the public.
