Immigration Attorneys in Charlotte NC successfully assist with N-400 Naturalization Application and US Citizenship

Our client, a national of Poland, hired the firm to handle her N-400 application. She was particularly concerned that she would not meet the documentation requirements and very anxious about the entire process.

We counseled our client that individuals who were lawfully admitted to permanent residence and meet the general statutory requirements for administrative naturalizations have the option to become US citizens. Applicants have to be at least 18 years old at the time of application, must never abandoned permanent resident status and satisfy the residency requirements of 3 years for qualified spouses of US citizens or 5 years otherwise, unless certain exceptions apply. Additionally, they have to reside within the state or district where the application was filed, must maintain good moral character, show attachment to the Constitution, and take an Oath of Allegiance. Most applicants are also tested on literacy and knowledge of US history and government requirements, and ability to read, write and speak words in ordinary usage in the English language. Certain applicants may qualify for English language exemptions and medical disability to English and civics.

Our client had difficulty obtaining certain documents. We contacted the proper authorities on her behalf and obtained certified copies. After filing the N-400 application, our client was scheduled for Biometrics and subsequently for her US citizenship interview at the local USCIS office. During our pre-interview meeting, we explained the role the attorney will have during the interview, we went over the documents she needs to bring, the kinds of questions she will be asked, and the possible results. We advised that an USCIS officer will review her N-400 application for naturalization and supporting documentation. The officer will also ask questions to verify applicant’s eligibility for naturalization. Additionally, applicants are tested on their English language reading, writing and speaking ability which includes having them read and write a sentence in English. They are also tested on their knowledge of U.S. government and history, requiring at least 6 (six) correct answers out of 10 questions.

At the conclusion of the interview, we were advised that she will be recommended for naturalization. After USCIS approves Form N-400, applicants are scheduled to take the Oath of Allegiance at a naturalization ceremony. We were happy to attend the ceremony which completes the process of becoming a US citizen.
